Is there a difference between shellac and gel polish?

Shellac is actually a brand of gel (UV Activated) polish, so when the nail technician asks you if you want Shellac, most of the time they are actually asking you whether you want a gel manicure. Unlike regular nail lacquer, gel polish/ UV Nail Polish /  Shellac requires a UV light to cure.  This means that you don't need to wait for the polish to dry, and gel manicures are also much more durable than regular nail polish.
